Being Prepared for Your Doctor Appointment

Being prepared for each appointment can help yo get better medical care and lead to a satisfying experience for you and your doctor. Here are some things you can do that will make you prepared.

  • Pay attention to how you are feeling. Write down any symptoms.
  • Write down all of your questions.
  • List all of the medicines you are taking.
  • Give your doctor your list of medicines and questions.
  • Be honest with your doctor and listen to what he or she is saying.
  • Take someone with you. They can help you remember directions the doctor gives you.
  • Ask questions. If you are unclear of what the doctor tells you, ask for a better explanation.
  • Always bring your Medicaid and UPHP medical cards to your appointments.
  • Ask for how much time you are scheduled. If you think you need more time request it.
  • If you can’t make it to an appointment, please call as soon as you can to reschedule.
  • Always bring your child’s immunization record to each visit, no matter where your child receives their immunizations!

Being prepared for your appointments can ease your mind. It can also make your visit a valuable experience.
