Lead Poisoning Prevention
Lead poisoning is a serious disease. many Children may have it, but don’t know it. To be safe, all children should be tested.
If any of the following are true, your child may be at high risk of lead poisoning:
- The place you live was built before 1978
- There is peeling or bubbling paint in your home

- You and/or your children visit someone who lives in an older home (this includes relatives, friends or even daycare).
To Protect your child from lead poisoning:
- Wash your child’s hands and toys often
- Keep your floors, window sills and other surfaces free of dirt and dust
- Ask your landlord to fix peeling paint
- Use very cold tap water for drinking and cooking
- Keep wash water clean
- Pour wash water down the toilet, not the sink
- Wash your hands after cleaning
- Have your child tested
