On June 3, 2003, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) accredited the Upper Peninsula Health Plan as a New Health Plan. NCQA is a not-for-profit organization that evaluates managed care
organizations. TheNCQA standards for accreditation are purposely set high to encourage health plans to continuously enhance their quality. NCQA uses a rigorous on-site review of clinical and administrative data, as
well as the Health Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) and the Consumer Assessment of Health Plans
Study (CAHPS) to evaluate health plans. HEDIS is a set of standardized measures designed to accurately compare the performance of managed carehealth plans. CAHPS is an annual member
satisfaction survey.
UPHP scores are compared to the National 2002 HEDIS Medicaid 90th percentile benchmarks and the Michigan Medicaid weighted average. The weighted average allows larger health plans to have a greater impact for these results.
NCQA's New Health Plan accreditation is distinct from NCQA's Managed Care Organization (MCO) Accreditation Program. UPHP will undergo its second accreditation review in June 2006. Access UPHP results for selected measures below.
