It’s National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week!

Posted on October 21, 2024

Join Upper Peninsula Health Plan and Public Health Delta Menominee in raising awareness about lead! National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW) is a call to bring together individuals, communities, organizations, and others to reduce childhood exposure to lead by increasing lead poisoning prevention awareness and education.

Lead exposure and poisoning is present across the Upper Peninsula, and while paint is a top culprit, it is not the only one. NLPPW highlights the many ways parents, caregivers, and communities can take action to reduce children’s exposure to lead and prevent its serious health effects. Even very low levels of lead in children’s blood are linked to negative effects on intellect, concentration, behavior, and academic achievement.

We invite you to join us this NLPPW to raise awareness about lead, since we all want bright futures for our children and communities. Please check out our digital toolkit for caregiver, clinic, and provider resources, including information about services available to children identified as having high blood lead levels. Also be sure to check out our digital toolkit specifically for parents & guardians, children, and at-home lead safety and prevention resources.
